By the end of the workshop, three Improvement Projects (IP)s were assigned to each participant for implementation over the next three months. The projects focused on topics which were taught during the workshop, for example: Laboratory Safety Audit, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s, and Quality Control and maintenance logs.
The SLMTA program was developed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). It was launched in July 2009 at a meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, and the first SLMTA training in Zimbabwe was held in March 2010.
